M Health Fairview – River Falls
BDH expanded the newly relocated M Health Fairview to provide convenient access to some of the top specialty care physicians and services in River Falls, Wisconsin.
Now offering 11 specialties, patients can stay close to home when in need of primary and specialty medical care.
Designed to provide a comfortable experience for patients of all ages, the welcoming lobby features a play area for children and a wide variety of seating options intended for multiple uses ranging from respite to remote work. The clinic also features two different check-in processes, providing patients with the power of choice. Those comfortable with advanced technology can use the automated self-check-in, whereas patients that prefer face-to-face communication can check in for their appointment with the receptionist.
Since patients receive substantial healing benefits wxxhen exposed to principles of biophilia, incorporating natural elements into the built environment was a huge aspect of the design concept. The larger than life environmental landscapes depicted in the floor to ceiling murals not only bring beauty into the space, they connect patients with nature around every corner. The large planter and stone fireplace incorporated into the lobby also bring natural elements indoors and evoke a warm environment. In addition to incorporating biophilic design elements into the patient areas, numerous windows were added to the staff territories to boost productivity and energy levels among the providers through access to natural light.
The clinic was strategically designed to separate care teams into four pods that each contain nine exam rooms, a nursing station, and offices for the practitioners. The proximal placement of the care team members supports effective communication and optimizes workflow. The pods are differentiated by carpet color and accent walls that coordinate with the nearby murals to promote patient wayfinding.
Ultimately, the strategic floor plan coupled with the intentional use of biophilic design and wayfinding elements work in harmony to maximize the patient and staff experience.
