St. Elizabeth Healthcare Cancer Center
HGA used natural materials and strategic color when completing the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Cancer Center in Edgewood, Kentucky.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare Cancer Center delivers innovative care to a region historically underserved with comprehensive cancer care options in northern Kentucky. Located at St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Edgewood Hospital campus, the six-story, 236,000 square-foot Cancer Center consolidates all cancer services under one roof.
The program includes Center for Integrative Oncology with whole-person care and wellness amenities on the first floor, such as a yoga studio, meditation, art and music therapy, and demonstration kitchen. Additional programming includes Women’s and Breast Health, multi-disciplinary clinics, shelled space for future growth, infusion, administration, retail pharmacy, outdoor healing garden, and 650-car parking garage.
Architecturally, the Cancer Center complements the existing campus vernacular—fulfilling the St. Elizabeth’s vision for an iconic building that promotes a calm and compassionate environment with a distinct presence.
A natural material palette with varying textures and colors relates to nature—such as the limestone cladding on the exterior or the wood ceiling within—providing a neutral foundation palette that enhance the soft and inviting language of the architecture.
A strategic use of color identifies departments and reinforces wayfinding as patients and family move into specific care areas, such as exam rooms, imaging suites, or infusion bays. Life-energy color tones uplift spaces throughout. Daylight, views, and access to the outdoors provide a sense of calm and tranquility.
Since opening, the Cancer Center has provided high-quality care rooted in St. Elizabeth’s brand of treating patients like family in a rigorous clinical environment with personalized care.
