HKS designed the Piedmont Physicians Medical Oncology with natural materials in Atlanta, Georgia.

Piedmont Physicians Medical Oncology relocated its clinical services to the Piedmont West medical office building to provide comprehensive cancer care in a larger, supportive environment. The existing space was renovated to improve patient flow and incorporate a neighborhood concept, with access to daylight and integrated offices/support services. The warm, nature-inspired design is intended to give patients a sense of comfort to lead them through their treatment journey to a hopeful life beyond. Representing the many native trees of Atlanta, the flooring assists in wayfinding using contrasting wood tones that represent tree bark and heartwood to indicate spatial functions. Green accents represent leaves, metaphorically implying life and energy. Botanical graphics and local Atlanta landmarks are used throughout to add color and a sense of familiarity.
