  • In Spring 2024, arcDESIGN completed a project for IU Health Riley that brought a brand-new modality to Riley Children’s Health, and to the state of Indiana as a whole. Riley Hospital for Children in downtown Indianapolis introduced new magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology, allowing the hospital to evaluate seizures in patients, specifically children. This is one of only a handful of healthcare facilities in the United States that offer MEG services.

The arcDESIGN team worked closely with the user group and equipment vendor to design a space that accommodated a Magnetically Shielded Room, two MEG specific equipment rooms, a large control space, a MEG prep/change area, a patient toilet and a workroom. The layout of this space was driven heavily by the user group and their anticipated patient flow. The MEG prep/change area provides space and clearance for the physician to prep the pediatric patient in either a MEG provided chair or table. The control workstation is long and linear, located directly next to the entrance into the MSR, where the MEG equipment is. This allows for constant monitoring of the computers, cameras and patient while being able to quickly get into the MSR if needed. The open space also allows room for other care team members that will be in the room at the time of the MEG scan.

arcDESIGN selected interior finishes that complement Riley’s campus aesthetic while creating a visually calming environment optimal for MEG scan procedures.
