  • The Izzo Family Medical Center, named in honor of Michigan State University (MSU) basketball coach Tom Izzo and his family, sits steps away from McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital at University Health Park. This 60,400-square-foot, multi-tenant facility was developed by Gillespie Group and houses medical services from McLaren Health Care, MSU Healthcare, and Corewell Health’s Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. Featuring state-of-the-art imaging services with advanced MRI, PET, CT and DEXA technology, alongside a multi-specialty clinic and pediatric services, the Center provides convenient access to outpatient care under one roof for faster diagnosis and quicker treatment.

The Izzo Family Medical Center design draws inspiration from McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, which was also designed by Gresham Smith, to create a cohesive architectural language within University Health Park. Located on the southeast side, the building’s entrance is framed by a striking glass canopy which serves as a beacon for patients and visitors. On the north and west sides of the facility, sleek glass and metal panels contrast darker brick and block cladding to house functional back-of-house spaces. This area’s visibility from the highway led the design team to create dual frontages to ensure the building resonates visually from every perspective.

Inside, the space is arranged to optimize flow between clinics and imaging suites. Large waiting areas are located on the southern side of the building, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the area with natural light and offer views of the surrounding area.
