Medico Clinic
Medico Clinic by Slash Architects in Istanbul features innovative form, practical function, and a bright atmosphere with a turquoise color palette, emphasizing sensory engagement and a restorative environment.
Medico Clinic is a 495-square-meter dental clinic located in Istanbul, designed to redefine the healthcare experience by blending innovative form and practical function. The clinic features 9 examination rooms, offices, service units, and a spacious waiting area. With expansive facades on three sides, the layout positions clinic rooms along the perimeters to harness maximum sunlight, ensuring a bright and welcoming environment for patients and staff alike.
At the heart of the space, a curvilinear core featuring an amorphous form serves as the clinic’s defining architectural element, housing the office units. This central feature disrupts the orthogonal layout, creating distinct perspectives from every angle and fostering a sense of curiosity. The amorphous core, inspired by nature’s fluidity, introduces a dynamic element that completely transforms spatial perception.
The turquoise blue color prominently used throughout the design manifests in various materials, including seamless flooring and perforated metal mesh on walls. This hue emphasizes calmness and freshness, while integrated lighting enhances the visual fluidity with reflections on the metallic surfaces. Curvilinear traces on the ceiling follow the walls, establishing a harmonious and cohesive unity throughout the space. Nestled in a curvilinear niche, the info desk shines with its metallic material, offering a focal point upon entry.
The flooring material, seamless and groutless, not only avoids visual strain but also fulfills a sterile purpose, enhancing hygiene. Within the clinical areas, a white, simple, and sterile design language prevails, reflecting the functional needs of the space. Semi-permeable glass walls are strategically used to allow sunlight to filter into corridors and inner areas, contributing to a sense of expansion, freshness, and privacy.
Lighting design is curated to serve different purposes across various sections of the clinic. In waiting areas, soft and warm lighting reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation, creating a calm and soothing atmosphere for patients. In contrast, operation rooms feature lighting tailored for functionality, with specific values and colors optimized for clinical tasks.
Spatial planning and material choices prioritize accessibility, comfort, and sensory engagement. Fluid corridors surround the central core, encouraging interaction and guiding users intuitively through the space. Reflective surfaces and ceiling-integrated lighting enhance this flow, adding depth and movement to the design. A semi-transparent plant wall and next-generation furniture in the waiting lounge further contribute to a stress-relieving ambiance.
Medico Clinic’s design merges contemporary aesthetics with practical healthcare needs. The integration of innovative materials, a curated color palette, and thoughtful lighting exemplifies a commitment to creating a restorative environment.
