Georgia Cancer Specialists Milledgeville
HLGstudio’s design for Georgia Cancer Specialists in Milledgeville, Georgia, transforms an industrial space into a healing environment, seamlessly combining patient-centered care with clinical functionality through thoughtful spatial organization and material cohesion.
For the Georgia Cancer Specialists, affiliated with Northside Hospital, our design approach balanced patient-centered care with clinical functionality, overcoming complex structural challenges in a previously industrial space.
The suite’s existing conditions—remnants of its past as an auto repair facility—presented significant constraints. These included deeply embedded grated trenches running east to west, the presence of thick load-bearing walls, and an existing roof access ladder that limited spatial flexibility. Our engineering consultants meticulously infilled the trench to create a flush concrete slab, forming a stable foundation for the transformation. The final design solution prioritized a healing; intuitive environment tailored to both patients and staff. The spatial plan was thoughtfully organized to separate public areas from clinical and support zones, using accent colors for subtle but effective wayfinding. The infusion area was designed with a centralized nurse station, allowing for unobstructed sightlines across all bays, enhancing both supervision and patient comfort.
A consistent palette of high-performance materials—established over the past six years as part of Georgia Cancer’s branded standard—was used to maintain cohesion across locations. Integrated storage and thoughtful detailing further support clinical efficiency, ensuring that the new space is as functional as it is welcoming.
