  • Steindler Orthopedic, one of Iowa’s largest orthopedic practices, partnered with RDG Planning & Design to create a new 83,426 SF clinic and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) to better serve residents of Johnson County, Iowa and its surrounding communities. Designed to elevate the patient experience, the facility embraces an “onstage/offstage” service model that supports operational efficiency while enhancing privacy and interaction between patients and care providers.

RDG’s design co-locates clinic and surgical services to support a new operational model that enables physicians to focus on patient care rather than navigating space. Natural wood accents, ceramic tile and decorative lighting add warmth and comfort, reinforcing the clinic’s welcoming atmosphere. Completed in March 2025, the project includes a six-room ambulatory center featuring double-entry operating rooms that separate patient and service flow, improving care continuity and reducing wait times. Additionally, dedicated areas for central sterilization and supply staging meet the specific demands of orthopedic procedures.

The medical office building houses 42 double-entry exam rooms, a radiology suite with MRI, CT and X-ray capabilities, spaces for pain management and spinal procedures, and a casting room. RDG’s design also incorporates an on-site physical therapy gym, specialized hand therapy areas and convenient access durable medical equipment fitting and retail. The result is a welcoming, efficient environment purpose-built for orthopedic care — one that marks a new chapter in Steindler’s 75-year legacy and reflects an ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional experiences and outcomes for patients across eastern Iowa and beyond.
