Somatus Dialysis Center at Falls Church
E4H Environments for Health Architecture created a patient-centered design for the Somatus Dialysis Center at Falls Church located in Falls Church, Virginia.
This is the first Somatus dialysis center to open. E4H was tasked with both designing the space as well as coming up with overall branding for this and future centers. Somatus philosophy is “Elevating Patient Care” which focuses on offering in-center and at-home dialysis options, and maximizing the number of patients who qualify for kidney transplantation.
In-center dialysis center contains 7 treatment bays, one private treatment/isolation room with associated waiting room, water/biomed room and staff support areas. This space operates in conjunction with the at-home treatment and training center located next door. For efficiency purposes, some facilities are shared between the two spaces.
Providing a high-end “spa-like” calming/relaxing space for patients to receive dialysis was a driving focus for this project. Designers achieved this by including privacy via semi-transparent divider walls between bays, utilizing spa-like materials and colors, high-end plumbing and light fixtures and lining the treatment areas with windows to let in natural light.
