Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Bergen
EwingCole completed the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Bergen as an additional location in Montvale, New Jersey.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Bergen is a former corporate office building renovated to deliver the latest in cancer treatment and care.
The plan was to create a sense of place which underscores the identity and mission of Memorial Sloan Kettering Main Campus and Regional Network, to incorporate a palette of clean, warm, and modern materials. Additionally the design plan was to have spaces that foster a variety of specific uses, from social interaction to meditative relief, with a mind to future flexibility for the entire property.
The design brings the soothing influence of nature and the comfort of home. Throughout the clinical spaces, the desire to bring natural light to the building interior influenced the building planning.
Every effort was made to offer patients and families control of choices. Patients can choose how to wait in private, or visible areas near staff, all with access to WiFi, outlets for device charging, and a café’. Mobility zones within the chemotherapy suite allow patients or caregivers to leave their private rooms to stretch their legs, pull up to a communal table, or lounge in comfortable seating areas, yet remain close-by their private room. Infusion room design allows patients to have direct control of their environment patients can adjust the lighting and temperature, access the Internet, Skype, watch videos, order food, or call assistance.
Medical and engineering devices are screened from view. Storage places for equipment and devices are provided.
