  • HED completed the addition to Beaumont Hospital West Emergency Department in Royal Oak, Michigan.

On completion of the West Addition project Beaumont Hospital Emergency Center is now one of the largest of its kind in the country. The 125,000 square foot addition and 56,250 square foot renovation more than doubled the size of the existing emergency department and features 114 exam rooms, 16 triage bays, 4 trauma bays and a helipad on the roof. The expansion also includes 53 medical / observation beds.

Mechanical and electrical engineers from HED worked collaboratively with Design Assist partners and co-located within HED’s Detroit office from the onset of the Design Development phase to conceptualize the most efficient design. This collaboration led to extremely low percentages of construction related costs above budget (less than 1%).

The expansion includes upgrades that combine technology and user-friendliness to create a truly novel medical experience. Such technology includes devices that monitor patients and directly send results to medical staff, noninvasive heart monitors allow staff to quickly evaluate heart and trauma patients, digital imaging with the ability to provide immediate results, and an MRI machine to expedite patient imaging.
