Design Collaborative was recently tasked with the design for the Van Wert Health Surgery and Inpatient Center located in Van Wert, Ohio.

This new, two-story addition and renovation of the existing Emergency Department for Van Wert Health houses modern surgery and inpatient services increasing patient access to care and reestablishes this health system as a premier system in the region. To demonstrate a renewed commitment to the community, vibrant and engaging clinical care environments for patients, family, and staff were designed and developed.

The use of light, landscape, and technology creates an architectural vocabulary to inspire confidence and credibility in the quality of care at this independent hospital. Heavy investment in technology, from patient rooms to a robotic OR, increase market share, and bring the previously aging hospital up to modern standards. Ideal workflows and adjacencies are carefully crafted to allow staff to operate efficiently and effectively. The balance of warm wood tones and clean, bright details brings calm and confidence to patients and their families.
