BDH was tasked to design the entirety of the Winkley Orthotics & Prosthetics clinic located in Golden Valley, Minnesota.

BDH partnered with repeat client Winkley Orthotics & Prosthetics, Minnesota’s largest privately owned orthotics & prosthetics company, to renovate their main clinic in Golden Valley, MN. Areas of redesign included the front reception, exam rooms, the walking gym, staff office areas, and the break room.

The updated design precisely reflects the company’s patient-first philosophy. All functions utilized by patients were relocated to the front of the clinic to improve convenience and circulation. The remodeled layout decreased the distance from the building entrance to the walking gym by 50%, which improves accessibility for the patient population, and the square footage of the walking gym more than doubled, expanding the room for movement and elevating comfort. Furthermore, the glass demountable walls allow energy and light to permeate throughout the space, and the sliding doors contribute to enhanced mobility. On top of enhancing patient navigation, the centralized design strengthens collaboration and efficiency among staff.

In conjunction with developing a more conducive layout, the aesthetic of the clinic was modernized to align with the company’s current branding. The primarily neutral finishes and light wood tones permit Winkley’s signature teal to stand out. The prominent history wall highlights the company’s 130-year evolution by way of modernizing historic newspaper clippings, memorable photos, and original hand-drawn sketches.

Design solutions were strategically devised to support phased construction to ensure the clinic maintained operation throughout the duration of construction.
