Vassar Brothers Medical Center Inpatient Pavilion
CallisonRTKL centered the design of Vassar Brothers Medical Center Inpatient Pavilion around clarity, flexibility and longevity to better serve the community of Poughkeepsie, New York.
With a focus on creating a patient-centered, healing care environment, CallisonRTKL’s design for the new eight-level inpatient pavilion at Vassar Brothers Medical Center (VBMC) in Poughkeepsie, NY, is centered around bringing clarity, flexibility, and longevity to the campus while empowering the surrounding community with a new level of vitality. Like the impacts of the nearby mid-Hudson Bridge and Walkway over the Hudson River on the Hudson Valley, the new pavilion provides a revitalized and sustainable medical center that will become a destination for world-class care, the flagship for Nuvance Health, and a long-lasting landmark for the Hudson Valley region.
The new pavilion addition boasts 290 private patient rooms, a new emergency department, loading dock, central plant expansion, interventional suite, conference center, cafe, helipad, and new inpatient lobby. Additionally, the VBMC campus will be developed into four distinct and separate zones: inpatient, outpatient, service, and emergency. The creation of these zones reflects the CallisonRTKL team’s commitment to operational efficiency, user experience, evidence-based design, and sustainability throughout the facility’s design.
