  • AC-AD Studio completed the art&fact Clinic with natural materials for a welcoming environment in Calgary, Canada.

Inspired by Art & Fact’s motto of inclusivity and empowerment, the design of this beauty clinic was conceived by employing a neutral palette of carefully selected natural materials in simple forms. The objective of the design is to champion subjective beauty in a fresh and lighthearted way.

Inclusivity plays a big role in selecting all natural materials throughout the project. At the entrance, visitors are greeted with white oak walls and cabinetries. Intricate wood slats and illuminated display niches further enhance the natural color of white oak to provide an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement. In contrast, the oversized monolithic reception desk and bench made from tundra marble evokes a sense of calm and determination; its linear and rigorous form softened by a soft and cloud-like stone pattern. The neutral shades of the stone and warm color of the wood suggest inclusivity regardless of age, gender, and ethnicity.

Another central design motif is openness and transparency. Since the clinic front is north-facing, it was crucial to utilize every opportunity to bring natural light into the reception area and the front corridor. The circular route around the floor plan took advantage of the well-lit front to act as a natural way finder from within. The view into the clinic from the outside is equally transparent. In the front corridor, bright neon lights displayed over a white oak backdrop provides an element of surprise that celebrates the clinic’s narrative of “set your own beauty standards”.
