  • Campfire & Co. completed the All Star Orthodontics clinic with inviting colors and muted tones for their space in Richmond, Virginia.

All Star Orthodontics is dedicated to helping families maintain healthy airways and confident smiles. Parents, kids, and adult patients are greeted by a passionate and friendly team providing exceptional treatment in a modern and comforting atmosphere.

Orthodontic care has recently transitioned from a referral-based network to a direct to consumer market. Providing an interior experience that stands out and makes guests feel comforted and cared for is an essential component of All Star’s marketing strategy and plans for growth.

The second location for All Star was part of a larger rebrand effort (also completed by the design team) with the goal of reintroducing an experience that better reflected their friendly personality and refined approach. The new brand and interior marries All Star’s fresh and sporty aesthetic with a modern, approachable, and distinctive style that appeals to all ages and stands out in a competitive market.

Inspired by All Star’s athletic brand, the interior concept expresses sporty motifs in a refined, mature, and elegant manner in order to connect with clients of all ages, as adults are a growing patient audience.

    Opportunities
Entering All Star, the welcoming lobby feels more like a cozy cafe than a clinic. It’s relatable and calming, and supports guests enjoying a coffee or sending a few emails. For younger patients, an experiential and playful custom millwork wall features built-in circle and arched seating nooks for reading or playing. The cabinetry wall prominently features branded merchandise, a favorite perk of patients and also doubles as built-in storage maximizing the space. The reception desk features finishes that evoke a hospitality feel, with hex tiling, wall graphics, and geometric patterns inspired by the All Star’s active aesthetic.

Further into the space, a coaching inspired clipboard wall celebrates promotions and patient smiles. Bold window graphics with branded language greet patients as they enter a calming and refined consultation room.

Glass storefront creates an approachable and transparent consultation room. Light and airy furniture, treatment chair, and TV provide space for a full patient exam and the opportunity to explain treatment plans in a comforting, easy to understand manner. Bold geometric flooring, graphic wood artwork, and patterned wallpaper further drive home connections to All Star’s energizing brand.

The treatment bay is designed to maximize efficiency without sacrificing the hospitality experience. Brushing stations feature bold chevron tile, custom teal cord pendants, black fixtures and countertops, and bright white cabinetry, reminiscent of a boutique hotel. A wall of TVs for patient enjoyment is broken up with modern sconces and striped graphics to feel purposeful and designed. Soft furnishings and plants add a layer of warmth. FInally, a neon sign, playful wall graphics take advantage of corners, add more brand connections, and provide a thoughtful backdrop for patient photos.

A round table, colorful storage lockers, vintage inspired refrigerator, and playful backsplash tile in the breakroom creates a comfortable space for the team at All Star to relax, store personal items and dine together.

Thoughtfully selected athletic themed artwork, branded signage, and colorful desk accessories add an extra layer of detail that give All Star’s space a cohesive and lived in feel.

    Challenges
Fitting All Star’s program into a tight square footage was a key challenge of the project. Forgoing a separate kids waiting room for a more experiential lobby space, adding additional doors for ease of wayfinding, and reducing the original plan from two consultation rooms to one allowed All Star to achieve their dream of a comfortable, modern, and on brand experience.

Lighting placement was another challenge overcome by the design team. Working within a traditional retail space with drop ceilings, lighting was purposefully located to match the program and sconces and pendants were added throughout for more human-scaled illumination.
