Cone Health set out on a journey to transform and elevate the region’s healthcare offerings with the creation of the Drawbridge Health and Wellness Center. Designed by Page Southerland Page and located in Greensboro, NC, Drawbridge introduced a true wellness component into the fabric of the community and the lives served by Cone Health. The facility established engaging but calming community spaces for teaching and learning healthy eating and wellness tools, nurturing and replenishing users when needed during times of emergency or clinical care. The new Med Center Drawbridge campus successfully captures the wellness experience while providing a convenient access to Cone Health emergency services, imaging services, and diagnostics as well as a wide array of clinic offerings from primary care to orthopedics and oncology including an infusion center.

Wellness is showcased in both indoor and outdoor environments within the Drawbridge Health and Wellness Center. Programs ranging from studio classroom teaching, fitness, and rehabilitation to basketball and aquatics programs are included to augment this community-based facility. To maximize the site usage, Cone Health chose to develop an integrated parking facility attached directly to the wellness complex. This affords more site area to be fully developed for outdoor activities and garden spaces while allowing direct and protected connection for patrons with exceptionally short travel distances and easy accessibility to the building amenities.

The eco-friendly facility is a four-story building of approximately 200,000 square feet and includes a mezzanine level within the fitness/rehabilitation center. Enhanced by outdoor gardens, the building is exceptionally engaging with great views to nature. The campus is woven into the greater Greensboro community as a destination site with direct connection to the Bicentennial Trail for both cycling and jogging. In creating this new Comprehensive Health and Wellness facility, Cone Health has set the bar for the future of medicine and how to engage patrons in both healing and wellness creating a better community through “well-being.”
