Primary healthcare provider Parkway Shenton is part of IHH Healthcare, one of the world’s largest healthcare groups. On the occasion of its 50th Anniversary, Parkway Shenton approached ID21 to design and build an integrated clinic – its largest to date – for corporate executives and patients seeking healthcare services in an accessible downtown location in Singapore.

Spanning over 11,000 square feet, the clinic features an amalgamation of primary care, health screening as well as radiology and rehabilitation services all under one roof. Inspired by Parkway Shenton’s ethos to deliver compassionate and personalised care, we anchored our design approach on the key thematic pillars of Hospitality, Wellness, Nature and Sustainability.

Sensitive to the visitors’ varying emotional states when coming in for consultations and treatments, our focus was to design a comfortable and calming environment. This is achieved through the use of a neutral colour and materials palette and strategic lighting.

Pale marble and fluted wood panels give an elegant edge, while greenery in the form of a moss wall and planters further softens the space. The brand’s corporate colours such as its signature teal and blue hues were subtly incorporated into the space through furnishings and door finishes.

A spacious pantry thoughtfully located behind the main reception counter grants staff and visitors alike easy access, allowing them to grab a coffee or quick bite when the need arises. We also intentionally positioned the pantry next to the windows to maximise natural light, and demarcated the space with planters to provide privacy. From the reception counters to the island table in the pantry, all the woodwork were executed with finesse by our own in-house carpentry studio.

This sleek and tranquil space elegantly references the values of this healthcare provider, while prioritising patients’ wellbeing and state of mind. The new clinic also bears special significance as one of Parkway Shenton’s earliest clinics opened in Republic Plaza. Five decades on, Parkway Shenton has returned with a new clinic in the same building, continuing its legacy of making a positive impact in the community where it operates in.
