  • Housing over a dozen specialty practices, Jefferson Health’s 462,000-square-foot facility consolidates a variety of services previously scattered across 10 different buildings in their Center City Philadelphia. Virtual and technology strategies augment physical space planning, enhancing patient engagement and convenience during the pre-arrival stage of care. Valet and concierge services support a seamless arrival,

The program for the ambulatory care facility houses over 300 exam rooms, 58 infusion chairs, 8 operating rooms, 5 endoscopy rooms, imaging, lab services, and a pharmacy. The building features two levels of amenity space, engaged with Chestnut Street and open to the public. Amenities include a large café, wearable technology bar, community event space, and a large-scale lounge area. As patients move up to the clinical floors public spaces are smaller, supporting a quiet and calm experience. The offering of unique amenities continues with programs like image recovery and lounge space for cancer patients, concierge medicine, and access to a rooftop terrace on the 15th floor.

This building features a foundation of neutral, subtly warm materials, complemented by simplistic detailing, creating a space that embodies elegance and evokes a sense of calm. The texture of key materials and the color of saturated graphics, textiles, and artwork activate spaces and creates an environment of care that is inviting for the diverse patient population it serves.

Planning strategies prioritized consistent flow among the clinical floors and access to daylight and views where most impactful. Waiting spaces on each floor, referred to as the sky lobbies hug the undulating façade, featuring built-in benches for an immersive view. Seating clusters are intentionally intimate and engage with either the bench or the opposing niches. A textured solid surface feature wall that mimics the clouds of the sky, reinforcing the boundary of the public and clinic spaces. Niches contain integrated technology and display of artwork giving this space a gallery like feel.

As patients navigate through the clinic, before and after receiving care, they will notice the large-scale graphics and decorative lighting that supports their wayfinding journey. Each image is uniquely identifiable, full scale, and integrated into the modular construction of each of the clinical exam zones. Decorative lighting denotes the entry and exit points back to the sky lobby.

The ambulatory care, endoscopy, and infusion patient treatment spaces are designed with the same principles, utilizing graphics and decorative lighting to support wayfinding and activate the space. The addition of soft accents and warm natural textures enhances these environments.
