  • Medico Express San Isidro is an innovative 8,715 m² outpatient center located in Santo Domingo Este. This project represents a Human-Centered Architecture model that seamlessly integrates architecture and medicine. It is grounded in key principles such as Evidence-Based Design, Neuroarchitecture, Sustainability, Universal Accessibility, and a People-Centered Approach, redefining access to healthcare services in Santo Domingo Este.

    Design Purpose
The design’s primary goal is to create an environment that reduces stress and anxiety for both patients and staff, thus supporting mental well-being. We envision the center as a space that fosters wellness, contributing to a positive experience for all users.

    General Concept
The center’s design is based on natural light and a connection with nature, creating an atmosphere that minimizes stress and transforms healthcare visits into a more human and empathetic experience. The building reflects Dominican essence, inspired by the natural beauty of Barahona Province, where sea and mountains coexist in perfect harmony.

    Design Strategies
    1. Evidence-Based Design
Every design decision is supported by scientific research to ensure the safety and protection of patients and medical staff. From selecting easy-to-clean materials to incorporating specialized furniture, each element has been carefully chosen to optimize health within the environment.

    2. Neuroarchitecture
The design is meticulously planned to offer a multisensory experience. Acoustic solutions have been implemented to reduce noise, enhancing the environment’s quality for both neurotypical and neurodivergent patients. The color palette, inspired by the sea and mountains, is designed to evoke positive emotions and create a calming atmosphere.

    3. Wellness and Comfort
The environment is crafted to promote wellness for both patients and staff. Spaces that ensure privacy and confidentiality, combined with effective acoustic design, guarantee quality care. Rest areas and ergonomic furniture are designed to enhance the work experience for staff.

    4. Sustainability
Sustainable, certified materials free of harmful components are selected to ensure a healthy environment. Handwashing stations and rigorous air quality control promote hygiene and comfort. Additionally, the design maximizes energy savings through ample natural light and water conservation via low-maintenance gardens with endemic plants from the region.

    Sustainable Materials
At the Medical Express Center, we use non-toxic materials that do not harm the environment or people, reinforcing our commitment to health and well-being for all users, and ensuring a safe and healthy setting.

    Natural Lighting and Sustainability
Natural light plays a key role, blending outdoor and indoor spaces to create a welcoming atmosphere. This strategy not only enhances user experience but also contributes to sustainability by optimizing energy savings.

    Universal Accessibility
The layout is designed to foster universal accessibility, facilitating movement for individuals with mobility and vision impairments. Wide corridors, waiting rooms with ergonomic furniture, and varied seating options create a welcoming and functional environment.

    Integration with the Surroundings
The building harmoniously integrates with the urban landscape, incorporating planters and seating areas that create a smooth transition to the interior. This connection to the outdoors is strengthened by the central atrium and skylights, which allow natural light to enter and promote a fresh, bright ambiance.
