  • KAI Design & Build recently completed the design for the Lacy Clay Center for Children’s Health located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (PHC) provides primary healthcare to the medically under-served population in urban St. Louis. When existing facilities proved inadequate, PHC commissioned KAI to design a new facility.

KAI is proud to serve as the architect, MEP/FP engineer and interior designer of this new $6 million, 3-story building located on property owned by PHC, just east of their central site on Delmar Boulevard near the intersection with DeBaliviere Avenue.

The scope consists of all architecture, interiors and landscape design, and all civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering. The building is supported on spread footings bearing on structural fill, with load bearing masonry wall construction, interior steel columns and steel bar joist. Exteriors are low-maintenance, durable and constructed of a combination of ground face concrete masonry units, brick veneer, and aluminum storefront and curtain wall glazing systems.

The new facility houses administrative offices, examination rooms, therapy spaces, conference rooms, a kitchen, a medical records room and an art room. The third level hosts two outdoor roof terraces.
