Midtown Pain & Spine Clinic

Hardaway|Sziabowski Architects designed a medical facility prioritizing natural light, soothing colors, sweeping curves, and communal spaces inspired by a biplane imaging machine in Raleigh, North Carolina.

  • area / size 6,600 sqft
  • Completed 2022
  • Type Clinic,
  • A primary ordering principle for this project was to provide common spaces enhanced by ample natural lighting, soothing colors, and sweeping curves to welcome, calm the nerves, and weave the center together. The curves borrow the shape of the dual c-arms of the biplane imaging machine central to the interventional pain and spine procedures, but also embrace occupants to provide comfort and support.

A generous, open reception desk greets patients at the public entry. The double height, lobby features expansive glass walls and shared waiting area for both pain clinic and second-floor surgery center. The pre-op/recovery area, primarily for patients and staff is united by a broad arc and blessed with light and views from generous ribbon windows.

The staff lounge continues the theme with wide glass storefronts and a tighter curve, fostering a sense of community among staff. Outside, a deep overhang provides shade and covered seating, extending the communal experience into the outdoor space.
