McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture designed Prisma Health’s Northeast Medical Park in Columbia, South Carolina, to expand access to comprehensive outpatient care in one of the Midlands’ fastest-growing regions. The four-level, approximately 137,000-square-foot ambulatory care facility was completed in late 2025 and brings a wide range of medical services together in one location, creating a centralized destination for coordinated, patient-centered care. Serving Northeast Columbia, Blythewood, Winnsboro, Elgin and surrounding communities, the medical park provides residents with convenient access to high-quality healthcare closer to home.

The design supports Prisma Health’s mission to transform healthcare by improving accessibility, efficiency and patient experience. By consolidating primary care, specialty clinics, diagnostics and pharmacy services within a single facility, the medical park allows patients to complete appointments, imaging and lab work and pick up prescriptions in one visit. This integrated model reduces travel and wait times while helping alleviate congestion at nearby hospitals and emergency departments as the region continues to grow.

Planning for the facility was guided by a data-driven approach that evaluated projected growth, service demand and evolving care delivery models. Working closely with Prisma Health stakeholders, McMillan Pazdan Smith developed a flexible outpatient framework that supports efficient clinical workflows and can be adapted across future sites. Clinical pods and standardized planning strategies help right-size exam, procedure and support spaces while allowing the building to accommodate changes in care delivery over time.

At the heart of the facility are 110 exam rooms that support a wide range of primary and specialty care services, including internal medicine, family medicine, OB/GYN, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, vascular care, pain medicine and behavioral health. Two Centers of Excellence in Cardiology and Orthopedics anchor the clinical program, complemented by four advanced operating rooms and a dedicated ambulatory surgery center designed to expand access to same-day surgical procedures.

The building’s four-level organization supports both patient convenience and clinical efficiency. The first floor houses the ambulatory surgery center, imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy and rehabilitation spaces, creating a centralized hub for diagnostics and treatment. Upper floors accommodate specialty clinics and physician practices, while the fourth floor is dedicated to cancer care services. A full-service outpatient pharmacy with drive-through access further enhances convenience for patients and families.

By bringing more than a dozen specialties together on one site, the Northeast Medical Park creates a hub for outpatient care that reflects the evolving delivery of healthcare. The facility strengthens access to services while supporting Prisma Health’s commitment to improving health outcomes and meeting the needs of a growing community.
