In the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, on one of the city’s most prestigious commercial addresses, Melbourne Dental Group has unveiled a purpose-built new clinic at 100 Collins Street — a sophisticated healthcare environment designed and built by BuildMarque to elevate both patient experience and clinical performance.

The project involved the complete design and construction of a contemporary dental practice comprising four spacious dental surgeries, a large central sterilisation room, reception and waiting lounge, private dentist office, staff kitchen, and a large plant room to support the clinic’s operational demands.

As both designer and builder, BuildMarque delivered an integrated approach that ensured the clinic’s vision was carried consistently from concept through to completion. This streamlined process enabled close attention to detail, efficient coordination, and a refined final outcome.

From the outset, the design philosophy centred on creating a space that feels welcoming, calm, and refined — challenging the traditional perception of dental clinics as overly clinical or intimidating environments. Natural daylight became a key architectural driver, with careful planning to maximise available light throughout the tenancy and bring warmth into patient and staff areas alike.

Equally important was spatial efficiency. Every square metre was strategically considered to ensure generous treatment rooms, intuitive circulation, and seamless functionality behind the scenes. The result is a clinic that feels open and spacious while maintaining the precision and discipline required in a high-performing healthcare setting.

A major focus of the project was mapping the complete patient journey — from arrival to departure. The reception and waiting area was intentionally designed to feel relaxed and calming, helping to reduce anxiety often associated with dental visits. Soft finishes, thoughtful lighting, and balanced materials create a hospitality-inspired first impression while preserving the hygiene standards expected in modern healthcare environments.

Behind the scenes, the sterilisation room was designed as a highly functional workspace, supporting efficient instrument processing, workflow compliance, and day-to-day operational excellence. Clinical back-of-house planning was integrated seamlessly into the broader design, ensuring aesthetics never compromised performance.

Collaboration with the client was central to the success of the project. Every joinery detail, finish selection, colour palette, and equipment location was carefully reviewed and refined to align with the practice’s vision. From cabinetry proportions to the placement of individual instruments and utilities, no detail was overlooked.

The completed clinic reflects a growing trend in healthcare design: environments that combine premium aesthetics with rigorous functionality. At 100 Collins Street, Melbourne Dental Group now operates from a space that is not only clinically efficient, but one that enhances comfort, trust, and the overall patient experience.
