The Public Diagnostic Breast Care Centre brings BreastScreen Tasmania and Diagnostic Breast Imaging together in a purpose-designed facility on Level 6 of the Liverpool Street Clinics. Designed as a calm, non-institutional environment, it supports screening, assessment, consultation and cancer prevention while providing patients with privacy, clarity and emotional reassurance.

The plan responds to distinct patient journeys. Screening patients follow a bright, efficient route, while diagnostic patients are supported by a quieter, more private pathway. Clear zoning and intuitive circulation reduce congestion and minimise reliance on clinical signage.

Inspired by a blooming flower, the interior transitions from open public areas to increasingly sheltered spaces. Curved walls, rounded joinery and flowing floor patterns soften the clinical setting and guide movement. Warm timber, tactile finishes, muted tones, planting and Tasmanian-inspired artwork create a welcoming atmosphere, while natural light and layered lighting support comfort and clarity.

The plan also prioritises safe, efficient care. Dedicated staff pathways, compliant clinical rooms, universal access, infection control and durable finishes support daily operations. Provision for future expansion allows later works to occur with minimal disruption.

The result is a dignified, supportive centre that balances clinical efficiency with patient wellbeing.
