Taylor Design has created a community based design for the Hoag Health Cancer Center located in Irvine, California.

As part of the Hoag Health Center Irvine – Sand Canyon campus, the Hoag Cancer Center offers a variety of services including Advanced Clinical Research & Trials, Chemotherapy & Infusion Services, Oncology Physician Specialists, and Radiation Oncology.

Hoag has developed a community based approach where patients have options to select the space they occupy while receiving cancer treatment. The goal of the space was to build a platform for patients to form friendships and create personal support networks. Private bays were provided for those needing individual treatment, as well as semi-private bays to allow a connection from one patient to another. The largest open space provided drew inspiration from the concept of a living room; providing a space where comfort was a key aspect as opposed to a clinical setting. Amenities in this space included lounge and cafe seating, a TV, and a fireplace. In all community models, space was also dedicated to the patient’s guest to ensure support for those going through treatment.
