CannonDesign were engaged by Colorado State University to design their Health and Medical Center located in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Colorado State University (CSU) Health and Medical Center is a unique and innovative partnership designed to elevate the health and well-being of the CSU campus and the Northern Colorado community. The building, which functions as a prominent new gateway to the campus, is the home of the CSU Student Health Network, which provides a full range of medical, counseling, and health education and prevention services to all enrolled CSU students. The new center also houses public healthcare services provided by the University of Colorado Health, including a walk-in clinic, a full-service pharmacy and occupational health services.

Prior to the new facility, health and wellness services were scattered throughout campus in three mid-century buildings. The four-story building replaces these aged facilities and brings them all under one roof — creating a new symbol for the university’s commitment to creating a healthy campus. In addition to offering traditional healthcare and wellness services, the building houses a nutrition center and the Center for Healthy Aging, which houses an integrated suite of offices and lab spaces to support a variety of research programs, outreach and student educational opportunities.

The architectural design of the building prominently features stone and brick, taking its inspiration from the design fabric of the greater campus. Inside, clinic spaces were designed to facilitate collaboration and team-based care, and a high-tech “reflection space” on the first floor integrates changeable audio and visual media stimulation and biofeedback furniture that gives feedback on individual heart and respiratory rates and other physical and emotional attributes.
