  • Tom Mark Henry designed a rehab space beautifully combining disciplines for Elite Spinal Physiotherapy & Pilates in Sydney, Australia.

A light filled oasis, providing a calming environment for clients of Sydney’s premier boutique physiotherapy and clinical Pilates studio.

The design employs a soft palette of natural tones and textural finishes to achieve a space that is as aesthetically inviting as it is comforting for clients recovering from injury and chronic pain. Making the most of its small footprint the design uses curved walls and joinery, allowing the spaces to flow effortlessly into each other to create the illusion of a larger volume. The floor finishes were integral to the design and help to delineate areas such as the reception from the circulation space and the studios.

The floorplan was re-worked to ensure immediate impact upon entry, as you enter you are met with the impressive sculptural reception counter, creating an immediate wow factor. The use of indirect and feature lighting creates a sense of softness which both complements the space and enhances the material choices. Warm walnut timbers create a timeless look, natural render helps soften the walls, while ribbed glazing to the studios allow light to filter through the space and also help to distort views for privacy. Although set in a commercial building the design was envisaged to be a clear departure from the immediate surroundings, creating a tranquil setting that provides a moment of escape for their clients.
