  • Boulder Associates was given the task of completing the Loma Linda University Health San Bernardino Care and Educational Center in San Bernardino, California.

This project is the result of a partnership between Loma Linda University and Social Action Community Health Services (SACHS), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The 151,860 s.f., three-story OSHPD 3 medical office building houses a clinic operated by SACHS that includes family medicine, adult, pediatric clinical pods, urgent care, dental, imaging, lab, and a pharmacy. The facility also hosts a residency program for the university.

This new facility delivers on the core SACHS mission of providing low-cost, high-quality, whole-person health care to the inland empire. The clinical spaces are designed with leading-edge medical planning centered around collaborative care and team-based medicine. The lab, imaging, and pharmacy services provide a convenient one-stop shop. For families that require assistance with basic essentials, a support center is available.

The architectural team was challenged to design a tilt-up building that challenged existing perceptions and limitations of the type, while taking maximum advantage of its benefits. The project delivery was driven by lean, integrated practices, with all disciplines actively engaged in applying minimum cost for maximum value. Constant, open communication between design and construction teams meant cost was managed, watched and reconciled in real-time. In addition, waste in the form of materials, time and effort were tracked and minimized throughout to generate maximum value.
