  • Cheesman Architects improved the interiors of North Eastern Community Hospital’s Payneham Aged Care Ward located in Campbelltown, Australia.

An existing Aged Care Ward at the North Eastern Community Hospital was in need of general refurbishment to improve the quality of finishes, functionality and the general environment for the occupants.

It was clear from the layout and general condition of finishes that this Ward would significantly benefit from targeted improvements to the finishes generally and some planning alterations to improve the functionality and patient/visitor flow.

The inclusion of a Sun Room and general improvements to the external Courtyard also needed to be considered.

The client had a very strong idea in mind to create a relaxing, open and friendly environment for their residents. Starting with a traditional Aged Care building constructed in the 1960’s, we had the challenge to transform an existing area into a fresh and uplifting facility that embodies the latest thinking in design for persons with dementia.

The colours and finishes were carefully selected to bring back memories of the residents and also make them feel distressed, encouraging them to socialise and spend more time in the brand new beautiful gardens.

We incorporated textures and elegant wall papers that resembled a Mediterranean look combined with a soft palette of colours and timbers.

Overwhelming positive feedback from our Client, and residents has made it a very rewarding experience for the Project Team.
